Hello! Dawn here, your A Clean Cigarette blogger. Before we get started I want to thank everyone that visits this blog. You are very appreciated! Today we are going to talk about a subject we have talked about a few times before. It’s the main ingredient in the A Clean Cigarette brand e-cigarette, Propylene Glycol. I always hear questions regarding this ingredient so I thought it would be a good time to do a refresher blog on the subject. If you have more questions about it after this blog and want to look at the other blogs go HERE or HERE.
Propylene Glycol is a chemical created in the 1940’s by the FDA and EPA. It was originally intended to clean and disinfect the air in hospitals of viruses and bacteria. In fact, there are human studies from the 1940’s and 50’s proving that PG is great for combating against contagions such as the common cold and the bacteria that causes strep throat amongst others.
Propylene Glycol is considered GRAS by the FDA. Which means Generally Recognized As Safe. It can be found in many consumer products including but not limited to this list:
From the list above we can tell that PG is considered safe for most uses. Including topical, inhalation, intravenous and ingestion. It’s even safe to be used in eye care, which is a pretty sensitive area of the human body.
Original Antifreeze: When original anti-freeze started to kill our pets people got upset. So the smart folks in the Anti-freeze business created a PET SAFE Anti-Freeze. In order to make their product non-toxic, they needed a safe to use ingredient. They chose PG for its GRAS certification. As a general rule, PG is ONLY found in non-toxic Antifreeze .although do to its -70 freeze point it is used in many types of anti-freeze and ice melts. Be sure to read all labels on any products you purchase.
So there it is, the basic 411 about Propylene Glycol. Like every chemical, even water has a point where it starts to do us harm. PG is no different. It’s not fresh clean air so it is not good for you. But remember what we compare ourselves to. The traditional burning tobacco cigarette. The TAR alone in those things kills hundreds of thousands of people each year. If you are interested in REALLY diving deep into PG then I suggest This research paper. The number of studies, sources, and information available there is spectacular.
If you or a loved one has not made the switch and you are thinking about it but were not sure about PG, I sure hope this blog helped. Visit ACleanCigarette.com for more information. There are however about 600 fewer ingredients in our product compared with burning tobacco cigarette products!
