Hey guys it’s Dawn again I am so glad to be here and I am more glad you are here with me! Today we are going to touch base on a how you can find valid information regarding e-cigarettes. The internet can be a huge and intimidating place. Type almost anything into the search bar and you will get thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of hits about what ever topic you can think of. While the information age is great, it can be a pain for sure. Who has time to sort through all the bull crap and find the grains of truth? I do.
So today I am just going to put a few sources for you to check out. Every source I post here will be a reputable one. Dot Gov sites only. Doing your research before making the switch is important. I want to make that very easy for you. We think our product is an amazing history breaking invention, but do not take our word for it, let’s doing some web surfing!
1) http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/PublicHealthFocus/ucm172906.htm Okay, so this source is the FDA itself. From this page we can learn that:
“Only e-cigarettes that are marketed for therapeutic purposes are currently regulated by the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). Currently, the FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) regulates
So what this says is every one is all up in arms because e-cigs are not FDA regulated, like the FDA regulating it will some how make it more “safe” But the FDA does regulate traditional burning tobacco and it’s counter parts. Are they now safer? Did the paper and leaf product become better for you when the FDA started putting fire safe chemicals in them through regulations? smh.
Something else we learn off this site is that:
We regularly receive voluntary reports1 of adverse events involving e-cigarettes from consumers, health professionals and concerned members of the public. The adverse events described in these reports have included hospitalization for illnesses such as
Whether e-cigarettes caused these reported adverse events is unknown. Some of the adverse events could be related to a pre-existing medical condition or to other causes that were not reported to FDA.”
Wow, that’s great. So any one can report anything and call it e-cig related and the FDA puts it out there and out front However, when we see studies that back up our e-cig claims they tend to bury it in hard to find places. One thing I did find is a link to these “adverse event reports” that are talked about here. It is a PDF so it can take a moment to load but here is the link: http://www.fda.gov/downloads/TobaccoProducts/AboutCTP/UCM393323.pdf. I took a look at it and although there are a few cases that we should all keep in mind the majority of what I am reading is stuff about how a non smoker was sitting 3 rows back in an auditorium and got a headache and nauseous because he saw some one using a vapor product. Please take a look at the reports yourself via that link but be warned it could take a long time to load and be hard to navigate. Wonder why that is hard to get to but anything that even kinda sounds bad about e-cigs is on the front page? We do too.

2) http://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/drugfacts/electronic-cigarettes-e-cigarettes This is another .gov site. This article is really fully of very useful information. Definitely a good read. It makes statements like this one:
“E-cigarettes are designed to simulate the act of tobacco smoking by producing an appealingly flavored aerosol that looks and feels like tobacco smoke and delivers nicotine but with less of the toxic chemicals produced by burning tobacco leaves. Because they deliver nicotine without burning tobacco, e-cigarettes appear as if they may be a safer, less toxic alternative to conventional cigarettes.”
I mean really!?! Isn’t that what we have been saying all along? The article does have some bad things to say, most of which we can not argue with such as:
“Another worry is the refillable cartridges used by some e-cigarettes. Users may expose themselves to potentially toxic levels of nicotine when refilling them. Cartridges could also be filled with substances other than nicotine, thus possibly serving as a new and potentially dangerous way to deliver other drugs.”
That’s why our cartridges are made to be used 1 time and tossed. There is not refilling involved with an A Clean Cigarette brand electronic cigarette when you use the product as it was intended.
Then there is this one:
“Nicotine is a highly addictive drug, and recent research suggests nicotine exposure may also prime the brain to become addicted to other substances. Also, testing of some e-cigarette products found the vapor to contain known carcinogens and toxic chemicals”
We agree, to a point. Yes, nicotine is bad for you. Yes it is addictive. Is it a gateway for future addictions? I don’t know, are all tobacco smokers meth heads? No. Can a meth addict be a smoker too. Yes. Did I pick up my first burning tobacco nicotine delivery system and think, great now on to the hard stuff? *rolls eyes* Of course not. As for the chemicals, nothing you inhale besides clean air is good for you that is just a fact. It is important however to note, that because every e-cig company is different and not all brands are interested in the safety of their customers yes, SOME e-cigs have some pretty bad reports when they are tested in a lab. We KNOW what is in our product and we want you to KNOW as well!
3) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4110871/ This NIH (National Institute of Health) page is something you may recognize from my past blog post. This thing is FULL, and I do mean FULL of great information! These guys took nearly 100 reputable studies and papers done on e-cigs and studied them to find out what they proved as a whole! This systematic review is done so well that it is published on NIH.GOV. It’s not easy to find though and I think that maybe due to it saying things like this:
“Currently available evidence indicates that electronic cigarettes are by far a less harmful alternative to smoking and significant health benefits are expected in smokers who switch from tobacco to electronic cigarettes. Research will help make electronic cigarettes more effective as smoking substitutes and will better define and further reduce residual risks from use to as low as possible, by establishing appropriate quality control and standards.”
“Still, nicotine intake should not be recommended to nonsmokers. Smokers are already addicted to nicotine, thus ECs will be a cleaner form of nicotine intake, while at the same time they will maintain their sensory stimulation and motor simulation of smoking; these are important aspects of the addiction to smoking. Regulatory authorities have expressed concern about EC use by youngsters or by never-smokers, with ECs becoming a gateway to smoking or becoming a new form of addiction. However, such concerns are unsubstantiated”
And this one is the best! (EC= E-cigarette)
“However, any regulatory decisions should not compromise the variability of choices for consumers and should make sure that ECs are more easily accessible compared with their main competitor, the tobacco cigarette. Consumers deserve, and should make, informed decisions and research will definitely promote this. In particular, current data on safety evaluation and risk assessment of ECs is sufficient enough to avert restrictive regulatory measures as a consequence of an irrational application of the precautionary principle [Saitta et al. 2014].
ECs are a revolutionary product in tobacco harm reduction. Although they emit vapor, which resembles smoke, there is literally no fire (combustion) and no ‘fire’ (suspicion or evidence that they may be the cause for disease in a similar way to tobacco cigarettes). Due to their unique characteristics, ECs represent a historical opportunity to save millions of lives and significantly reduce the burden of smoking-related diseases worldwide.”
Wow, that’s a lot of information there! All of the sites I have listed here today are reliable and yet they seem to tell a different story then the one these same sources put out to big media. Why? I am not sure. It hardly seems logical. If you are thinking about upgrading your nicotine delivery please research and find out what it’s all about 1st. I hope these sites help you do that. There are more out there but please be sure you get your information from reputable places. Not everything you see on the internet is true: Bonjour? Take the time to do it right.
