Hello out there! So today we have a guest blogger:) Normally I do the blogging (Dawn), but an amazing co-worker of mine Ms.Tina, that’s her there in the picture, had a brilliant idea. She is going to talk about how to get rid of that nasty burning cigarette smell out of your house after you have made the switch!

Great picture of Ms. Tina and our very own Eddie!

Well, Tina has some great ideas here so I will turn the blog over to her! Take it away, Tina!!

Now that you have made the switch to A Clean Cigarette, how do you get that burning tobacco smell out of your home?

Cigarette smoke can leave a tar residue on everything in your home. I remember when I first quit combustible tobacco. I could not stand the smell it left on my furniture, walls, carpet and all the other things you don’t even think it would be on. I wanted that smell gone and I knew it would take a LOT of work. While contemplating just where I should start, I went for the easy fix, or so I thought. I opened all my windows and doors. The fresh air helped but it was not going to be that easy. When I looked at my windows, they were covered in yuck! Even the screens smelled like tobacco smoke it was time to get to work!

Where do I start first? What will work? It took me a while, but I found the answers I was looking for. Maybe this can help you too.

clean up
Tar and smoke on walls and surfaces of your home can cost big $$ to clean up!

Gotta wash those walls! Here is a solution that worked great. Add ½ cup ammonia, 1/3 cup vinegar and ¼ cup baking soda to a gallon of warm water and wash those walls.Be sure to rinse and dry them .the tar seems to just smear if you don’t. Next the carpets and furniture –I’m too tired for that –Now what? Here’s a solution for in between all the work you have left to do. You can boil some orange or lemon peels on the stove to freshen the air, or put small bowls of vinegar in each room and close the doors until you have the time to get to them. Vinegar is a natural deodorizer.

sofaNow for the carpets and upholstery. There several ways you can do this, first vacuum the carpets and furniture.  Sprinkle some baking soda on your floors, chairs and sofas. Let it sit for at least 5 hours then vacuum it off the floors and furniture. You can also shampoo your carpets with a solution of 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar and do the same for your furniture by putting it in a spray bottle. But you should take care, vinegar can bleach things too. If you go the baking soda and vinegar route you will have to do this a couple of times. You can also opt to constantly spray with Febreze or call a carpet cleaning service.

On to the cupboards. A great solution for this is to use 1 cup ammonia to 1 gallon of warm water, be sure to rinse and dry them afterward. And don’t forget the drawers, clean them too. Leaving a small dish of coffee beans and some balled up newspaper in them also helps. They both absorb odors.

Finally, you can use the ammonia solution to clean your windows, screen doors, screens and window sills. You will also want to replace your heat and air conditioning filters and replace your light bulbs.
Tobacco smoke and tar are a lot of work to remove. I hope I gave you some ideas on what you could use to remove the smoke and tar build up in your home. If you have anything that has worked for you, let us know.
