A Key Ingredient In E-Cigarettes, Propylene Glycol, Study Shows Kills Airborne Bacteria

Hello, all and it’s me, Dawn, again bringing you all the information I possibly can in regards to electronic cigarettes and burning tobacco. The differences, the similarities and everything in between. AS you may know, I am always searching for valid content so when I saw a Facebook news post last night that made reference to some very interesting and supposedly new information I just had to look into it.

I mean how could I not? It’s very exciting research that is published on one of the most reputable sites that can be sourced.

The Site: NIH.GOV (National Institute of Health)

The Study:  THE BACTERICIDAL ACTION OF PROPYLENE GLYCOL                           VAPOR ON MICROORGANISMS SUSPENDED IN AIR

II. INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS FACTORS ON THE ACTIVITY OF THE VAPOR*                          BY THEODORE T. PUCK, PH.D., O. H. ROBERTSON, M.D.,
AND HENRY M. LEMON, M.D.

From the title, it is pretty obvious what this study is about, and what the results from this study indicate are pretty amazing too: (In my words: Click Here for the full report)

PG research indicates that vaporized propylene glycol kills many forms of airborne bacteria, including pneumococci, streptococci, staphylococci, and even the influenza virus.

So sounds great right?! I mean with research like this coming directly out of a .GOV source and with the recent flipping of the FDA’s opinion on e-cigarettes, research like this should be considered ground breaking good news, right?!?!

So yes it’s good news…..and it probably was ground breaking news. That is it was breaking news back in 1942 when this research was completed. Yes, you heard me right, 1942. That’s 75 years ago!! And it’s not something we have not talked about before either.  In fact, if you have ever read the blogs I did regarding PG then you have seen this source before. (Click Here and Here for past PG blogs.)  It’s great information really. (I know at least some of you have heard me go off about the fact that PG was created in the 1940’s as a means to clean air born bacteria out of the air in hospitals and was then later used as a delivery agent for vaporized medicines such as inhalers.

Okay then, you may be asking yourself if this is knowledge is 75 years old, why is it being touted as new news now? That’s a great question, but the why is not really important. I for one am just glad that it’s being shared around. So if you happen past one of these news articles regarding the shiny new Propylene Glycol study, giggle to yourself, then share it. The information may not be new, but it’s certainly News worthy!!
